Does EV demand make lithium less speculative?

As primarily a tech investor I typically dismiss small and mid-cap mining stocks as high-risk and high volatility.  So, I surprised even myself this week by starting to look more closely at Bacanora Lithium (LSE: BCN) and Savannah Resources (LSE: SAV).

Electric vehicles, or EVs, rely heavily on lithium as it is a key ingredient of lithium-ion batteries. The number of vehicles that rely on lithium has skyrocketed in recent years, with the number of EVs jumping from 17,000 in 2010 to upwards of 10 million in 2020.
